This beginner to intermediate friendly course is designed to help you explore the fundamentals of hand building ceramics while encouraging your personal expression. Each week, Lauren introduces new techniques and perspectives on working with clay. Whether you are new to the medium or seeking to refine your skills, the course is structured to support both those who value guided instruction and those who prefer a more independent, exploratory approach.
What You'll Learn
Over the six weeks, students will explore:

⚚ Slab Building – Creating functional and sculptural pieces using slab techniques
⚚ Sculpture Techniques – Forming and refining artistic clay structures
⚚ Glazing Methods – Exploring surface decoration and finishes
⚚ Clay Properties & Best Practices – Understanding material behavior, drying, and firing processes
⚚ Clay, glazes, and all necessary tools
⚚ Firing services for your finished pieces
⚚ A welcoming relaxed studio environment

A relaxed, community studio environment for ceramic makers of all levels, with a focus on hand-building and sculpture.
These individual classes give you access to Lauren’s ceramic studio, including tools, glazing, firing facilities, and guidance as needed. Work at your own pace while developing your skills in a supportive studio setting.
Come weekly, monthly, or whenever it feels right. Your first session includes a bag of paper clay to get you started.

Session holders are also welcome to attend evening course sessions:

Studio time is flexible. Once you’ve purchased your sessions, you’ll receive an email with booking details to confirm your start date. Sessions can be scheduled and rescheduled anytime through the online calendar.

You'll find our studio shared artists studio through the carpark at 10 Farmer Street, behind the tennis courts and opposite the community garden.
There’s plenty of free parking available beside the tennis courts on Farmer Street, directly in front of the studio, or along Namur Street (just across from the venue).
