FAQ
  • Why choose LS. Ceramic Studio?

LS. Ceramic Studio is intentionally small, quiet, and community-focused. Rather than large production-style classes, each session is designed to give makers the time, space, and guidance to develop their own creative practice. Whether you're making your very first mug or exploring ambitious sculptural work, you'll be encouraged to work at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment. The studio is run by Boorloo based ceramic artist Lauren Jane Salt, and you're welcome to explore her artistic practice and archive to get a sense of the teaching philosophy and creative approach that shapes the studio.

    Do I need any experience?

Not at all. Beginners are always welcome. Whether you've never worked with clay before or have years of experience, I'll guide you through the basics and support you in developing your own projects at your own pace. Sessions are tailored to your individual skill level, so you'll receive as much guidance as you need while building confidence and exploring your own creative practice.

Can I just book one session?

Yes. You're welcome to book a single session to try the studio. If you'd like to complete a ceramic piece, I recommend booking at least two sessions - one to make your work and another to glaze it once it's been fired.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. All sessions are booked online, and places are limited to keep classes small and ensure everyone receives plenty of individual guidance. feel free to get in touch if you have any issues.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. If you have a session package, you can reschedule your bookings through the online calendar, subject to availability.

    How long does firing take?

Firing typically takes between one and three weeks, depending on drying times, kiln schedules, and the volume of work in the studio.

    Do you fire outside work?

Yes, just get in touch to speak further.

    What clay do you use?

At the studio we use Earthenware Paper Clay, this is a sculpture hand building friendly clay that is available for purchase through the studio.

What if my piece cracks or breaks?

Ceramics is an unpredictable material. While every care is taken throughout the drying and firing process -cracking, warping, or glaze variations can occasionally occur. These are natural characteristics of working with clay and, unfortunately, cannot always be prevented.

Can I leave work at the studio?

Yes. Works in progress can be stored in your allocated pigeonhole while you're completing your project. Once your work is finished, please collect it within the collection timeframe.

How long will you keep my finished work?

Finished work will be held for up to 6 months. If your work hasn't been collected after two email reminders and no alternative arrangements have been made, it may be discarded due to limited storage space.

What happens if I miss my booking?

If you miss a booked session without rescheduling beforehand, that session will be forfeited. Rescheduling is easy and can be done through the online booking system or via your booking confirmation email. As class numbers are intentionally kept small, late cancellations or no-shows have a significant impact on the studio and cannot be refunded.

  • Do you accept commissions?

Yes. I welcome commissions for both private collectors and commercial spaces. If you have a project in mind, I'd love to hear from you.

Do you charge for a quote?

Most straightforward quotes are provided free of charge.

For larger commissions or projects that require extensive design development, multiple concept sketches, drafting, material research, or ongoing consultation, a design fee may apply. If this is the case, I'll discuss it with you before any work begins.
