Lauren Jane Salt is a multidisciplinary artist based in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia. Her practice explores the interplay between transformation, mythology, and identity, shaped by her ancestry and a background in floristry. Working primarily with ceramics and organic materials, Salt creates sculptural works that trace cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, offering quiet reflections on personal and collective experience.
Salt began working with clay in 2014 at North Metropolitan TAFE, where her grounding in ikebana and floristry naturally informed her approach to form and composition. In 2015, she undertook further study under master florist Gregor Lersch in Germany, and in 2017 was awarded Western Australia’s Florist of the Future through the Interflora National Competition. Her floristry background continues to shape her material sensibility and compositional approach to clay.
From 2015 to 2024, Salt co-directed VOLIM, a collaborative label with fashion designer Tia Tokić, merging ceramics, textiles, and botanical design. VOLIM’s final exhibition, Voće, was presented at Goolugatup Heathcote as part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (2024).
In 2025, Salt presented her debut solo exhibition, Crossing Portals, at Lightworks Gallery, a body of work examining emotional, cultural, and mythological thresholds through ceramic sculpture.
Alongside her studio practice, Salt runs SCS, a community-focused ceramic sculpture and hand-building studio within the shared Farmer Street Studios. Through classes, courses, and open studio sessions, SCS fosters an inclusive and collaborative learning environment, supporting students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
