Over two sessions, you'll create your own hanging ceramic tablet: a framed image sculpted entirely from clay.
Drawing inspiration from ancient relief carvings, devotional plaques, folk art, archaeological artefacts and storytelling traditions, participants will design, carve and glaze a central image surrounded by an integrated ceramic frame.
In the first session, Lauren will guide you through composition, texture and relief carving as you construct your tablet and decorative border.
In the second session, you'll return to glaze your framed ceramic artwork, exploring painting with glaze, surface and finishing techniques.
Following the workshop, all pieces will undergo a final firing and will be available for collection a few weeks later, depending on workshop size and kiln schedules.
Examples of ceramic tablets created by Lauren are shown in the accompanying images.
Participants are encouraged to bring inspiration, reference images, personal sketches, photographs, symbols, stories or ideas they would like to incorporate into their artwork.
